Born and raised in Chicago, Lorne F. Massie is one of the founding members of Austin Comets Athletics and has served as Athletics Director since it's inception in January 2013. Lorne attended Olivet Nazarene University and earned a B.S. in Criminal Justice (09'). As a former DI full scholarship athlete (Tennis: Chicago State University 2003-04), he leads a program that has served hundreds of young people annually in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois and managed more than 50 volunteers who have been involved with the program.
Lorne has guided the program through the launch of it's first youth sports program, Comets AAU Boys Basketball. Under his leadership, the basketball teams have had an increasing impact on the young people they serve by focusing on the priority of building long-lasting mentoring relationships over athletic achievement. While he has served as Athletics Director and Head Coach for many Comets AAU Grade School teams, Lorne has also coached basketball at the high school level for Noble Charter Schools including Golder College Prep and Rowe Clark Math & Science Academy. He's currently the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at ITW David Speer Academy (H.S.) on the westside of Chicago, Illinois.
"The mentoring coaches had a great interest in the success of my child and his peers both on and off the court."
