Our Philosophy
The first part of our proven mentoring model is to welcome and seek out the overlooked, damaged, broken, unappreciated athletes to give them an equal opportunities for success and support. Many youth are written off because of their chronic inappropriate behavior, but our goal is to provide enrichment to ultimately meet their spiritual, emotional and physical needs.
Secondly, by creating a safe and fun environment for young men we start the relationship process by building trust. Without trust, there is no relationship. While fostering relationships is the central focus, our mentoring sports coaches use “teachable moments” to educate our athletes on our Urban Survival ™ curriculum which focuses on teaching two personal skills (impulse control and personal responsibility) to help when they’re faced with conflict, disappointment or failure. These “teachable moments” can occur during phone calls, home visits, social media group chats, rides to and from competitions, and on & off the court/field situations.
Lastly, we challenge our youth with high levels of athletic competition and give them ownership of the sports fraternity, which helps to put to test skills learned through leadership, have accountability for high expectations and develop decision-making ability.
The end goal for our member athletes is to not only have an opportunity to secure a college scholarship but also become great citizens and positive contributors to society and pass on what’s been taught to the next generation.
